Fallen Leaves

Scripture for the day:  John 11:25-26 “Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection  and the life.  He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.  And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die.  Do you believe this?’”

We have had a beautiful fall.  The leaves have been spectacular this year giving us crimson, yellow, and orange mixed in with the green.  It was not necessary to travel to Missouri or southeast Oklahoma.  Every street in town was ablaze with color.

But the seasons are changing.  The beautiful leaves are turning brown and falling to the ground.  They are underfoot now, lackluster and drab, with no life in them.  It is the same with lives.  Those without Christ may be beautiful for a while, glimmering and putting on quite a show, but it is transient.  Without Christ, they too will fall and be trampled.

Their lives are different from the leaves, however, because they still have hope.  They can repent, accept Christ and be saved.  The  Light of the World can renew them and they will never die.  My prayer is for the lost today.  May they recognize their condition, turn from their sin, and accept Christ.

The brown leaves in my yard are on their way to becoming compost.  Lives can be renewed, however, and that is my prayer today.

Song for the day:  “I Surrender All”

My prayer for the lost is that they will recognize their need, turn from their sins, and surrender all to Him.  As long as there is breath, there is hope.
