Why Worry?

Scripture for the day:  Matthew 6:31-34  “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’  For after all these things the Gentiles seek.  For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things; But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.  Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things.  Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

Do not worry!  There’s absolutely no wiggle room in that statement!  And yet, I used to worry . . . a lot.  My pastor preached several sermons about worry, and it made me realize how futile it was.  I had worried for years that I would develop dementia like my mother did.  Well, guess what?  I got cancer.  Never worried about that at all!  Through all of that, God took the worry out of me.  I now live each day for all its glory and leave tomorrow to God.  Worry is useless.  It is not profitable, doesn’t change anything, and it is an insult to God.  When my kids were young, they trusted us to protect them.  We would have given our lives to do so.  If they had stood around crying and worrying that we wouldn’t protect them, I would have been very hurt.  That is how God must feel when we worry.  He gave His son to die on a cross for us.  He rules my life and He reigns in my heart.  I am His!  Why worry?  God is in control!

Song for the day:  “God Will Take Care of You”

…through every day, o’er all the way; He will take care of you . . .  Why worry?
